My year in Concerts- 2010

This has been a GREAT year for music. I have spent all morning listening to my favorite songs from 2010. I came up with a really great list and I will be posting it soon. But, for now I will write about all the shows I have been to this year.

She & Him with Dum Dum Girls- August- This show was a part of the Twilight Concert series that Salt Lake City puts on every summer for free! Since it was free, there was a huge turnout. I LOVE Zooey Deschanel's voice and mixed with M. Ward you know you are in for a treat. My favorite song of the night was a cover of "Roll over Beethoven" by Chuck Berry. They did a great version!

Vampire Weekend with Beach House- September- I went to this show with my cousin, Alex Pow and her boyfriend Lynn Wiberg and our friend Martin Bradshaw. We waited in line outside forever! It was a sold out show. Beach House was good, but Vampire Weekend stole the show for me. I really enjoyed watching the bass player.

James with Ed Harcourt- October- I attended this show with my parents and Serina. It was a wonderful show all around! Tim Booth was such a nice guy and he is the BEST dancer I have ever seen! They did not play my favorite song, "Sit Down" but the show was great anyway! We meet the entire band afterwards. Along with opener Ed Harcourt who Serina became best friends with.

The Futureheads with So So Glos and Young the Giant- October- This was easily the BEST show of the year!! I have seen The Futureheads twice before and the third time was a charm. I was so excited that I made my Dad and Serina go early with me to make sure we got in. The show was held at Kilby Court, which is a tiny venue in Salt Lake City. We walked in and about ten minutes later, The Futureheads walked in!! It was wonderful. We had about an hour before the show so we started to talk to The Futureheads and have them sign all of our stuff. The So So Glos were from New York and I enjoyed them. Young the Giant was from Newport Beach and I liked them too. But, no one can compare to The Futureheads, who are from England. The show was very small, but the lead singer from Neon Trees was there. That made Serina happy. My friends Tom Brinton, Dallin Gunther, and Tracee Tibbitts came too.

The best part of the whole show was when Barry the lead signer said, "The next song is dedicated to the lovely Talisa and her family, I think there all related." I about fainted! Before the show I had told him that my favorite song was "Carnival Kids" and that was the song he dedicated to me!!! This was the best show I have ever been to! I LOVE the futureheads!

The Weepies with Joe Pug- October- I went to this show with my parents, The Kershisniks, and Sam Payne. It was at a 21 and up venue. I felt old. I also forgot my ID, so Corryn and Rob drove up and met me half way to get it. Joe Pug was a solo act from Chicago and he sounded lovely. The Weepies were wonderful! They are a husband-wife team and I love them!

Megan Joy with Benton Paul- November- This was a free show at the Riverwoods in Provo. I loved Megan Joy! She was so cute and I danced with her afterwards. She was from American Idol-same season as David Archuleta. Benton Paul was good, but not my favorite.

Ingrid Michaelson with The Guggenheim Grotto- November- My Dad, Serina, Corryn and Rob, and my friend Kristin Gulledge went. This was a very fun and packed show! The Guggenheim Grotto are two men from Ireland, they had a very lovely sound. We all met them afterwards and got our picture with them. Then Ingrid came on and it was wonderful! They opened with Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" and came out masked. It was great!

Kate Nash with Peggy Sue- November- I went to this show with My Dad, Serina, Cousin Alex Pow, Eden Kershisnik, and Signe Fugal. We also met Andrea Baker, her husband, and baby at the show. Peggy Sue and Kate Nash were both from England. Peggy sue was two girls and a guy drummer and they kept switching instruments- cool. Then Kate Nash came on and she was super cute! She wore an awesome skeleton outfit.

Brandon Flowers (of the Killers) with Fran Healy (of Travis)- November- I went to this show with my friend Alex Morrise. Suzanne and Brian Kershisnik met us up there. Fran Healy came on late and sang only six songs. But I really enjoyed all of them, it was just him and his guitar. Then Brandon Flowers came on and boy was it a show! They sounded really swell and had cool lights. Good night.

Well as you can see, I have had one great year, full of Rock N' Roll shows! I have two more months before I go into the MTC and I plan to see a couple more shows before I leave.

Of course I have also seen many local acts as well. Like, Mad Max and the Wild Ones, Voodoo Swing, Atl Atl (now Bearcats), The Brobecks, The Crylics, Ring of scribes, Monkeygrinder, and Archie Crisanto and the traveling salesmen. And I love them all! I look forward to many more shows. I am so glad I have friends who play such awesome music.

It's that time..

Hello, World!
This past week I have accomplished some major life goals and because of that I feel like it is now the time to start a blog. So, here I am. Plus, I am going on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in March to Stockholm, Sweden and I want my mom to update my blog with letters.

I will start my very first post with an explanation of the title of my new blog—"Surfing on a Wildcat". Ever since I can remember I have loved music. A talent that I was not blessed with was singing the right lyrics to the songs that I dearly love. One of my favorite songs is called, "Surfing on a Rocket" by the band Air. And if you listen close you can hear them sing "Surfing on a Wildcat". Now, I wasn't sure why anyone would want to actually surf on a wildcat, but I didn't care, I LOVED the song. So, I went on for years singing "Surfing on a Wildcat" and I believe it was my Dad and my dear friend Caitlin who caught me in the act of singing the wrong words. It is now a fun game for my Dad and Caitlin to call each other and talk about what they have heard me sing wrong lately.

And that, my dear friends, is the start of my blog.
